Teen Idle is the music project of 22-year-old New Jersey songwriter Sara Barry. Though she’s been writing music since high school, Sara didn’t start to take music that seriously until college, where she spent most of her time obsessing over songwriting and discovering new music. After graduation, she moved out of New York City and back home to the shores of NJ with a guitar in one hand and English degree in the other. Sara’s music, which draws from the boredom of suburban life as much as it does from scenes of city life, there is a sense of trying to find your identity, not knowing how to belong to two places at once, a feeling you get used to after crossing the NY/NJ state lines so many times. Teen Idle’s music is inspired by so many things: countless ‘80s and ‘90s bands, old cinema, and even the literary tradition of Sara’s Middle-Eastern heritage. It’s music for people who feel a lot of things.
